Crimea has long tradition of nudism and communudism. It was the first place where Russians (repressed first by the Tzars and more recently by Joseph Stalin and Vladimir Putin) were able to gather together to enjoy a nudist lifestyle and social naturism. In the early 20th century, shortly after the German naturist movement emerged, the Ukrainian born Russian language symbolist poet, painter and freemason, Maximilian Voloshin established a nudist colony at his home in Koktebel.

Max Voloshin was inspired to pursue public nudism by the activities of a German organisation called the Freier Bund. Voloshin begins his essay On Nudism, first printed in Dnevniki pisatelej 1 (March 1914, pages 34-­40), with a sketch of that organisation:

The Freier Bund is the name of a German society whose goal is the physical and moral improvement of humanity through nudity. The society is located in Berlin. It has its own park at Grünwald, where members of both sexes gather for games in the open air. The Society was founded by Dr. Küster, a physician who was able to assert the Society’s right to exist before the most bashful of all police forces, the Prussian police.

Dr. Küster says, “There are two reasons keeping people from nudity: the fear of catching cold and bashfulness. The first reason does not stand up medically to criticism, because our skin is an astonishing regulatory mechanism, thanks to which we, once we are in motion, do not have to attend to any atmospheric changes whatsoever. As for bashfulness, if your sensibilities are annoyed by semi-­nudity, take my nudity cure and you will see how your nerves will be soothed and what a profound sense of physical and moral liberation will remain with you after visiting our park.”

Voloshin concludes On Nudism with the following:

Compared to the Russians, the French are almost free of a sense of shame about their own bodies. But they are always struck by the Russians’ freedom to bare themselves spiritually. In all spheres of spiritual life they are insurmountably bashful and reserved. (Thus, for example, insanity in a French family is carefully concealed.) The Russians’ openness about themselves attracts the French and disturbs them, as does the innocent shamelessness of children and savages, as does a freedom that is inaccessible to them. The spiritual shamelessness of the Russians can only be explained by the absence of external forms of psychic life. The Russian spirit feels itself only from within, and does not yet know its own epidermis. And in this area all bashfulness is concentrated in the covering of the skin.

We experience an acute sense of confusion and awkwardness when we accidentally see undressed a woman well known by us and respected by everyone. This is natural.

Once in the theatre I happened to meet a woman whom I know well but had never seen dressed. (She was a model.) At first I felt exactly the same feeling of awkwardness and embarrassment.

Going bathing, I undress at home, put on a bathing robe, cross the thirty metres separating my home from the sea, and throw myself into the water. The local inhabitants are profoundly shocked by this behaviour.

Local decency insists that each individual undress in full view of others, on the open beach ten steps from the road.

In my memory remains a model who did not dress during her breaks but sat in the corner of the studio and laid out her needlework. In this pose there was as much beauty and modesty as when she appeared clothed in a long morning dress. The eye refused to recognize her nakedness.

In 1913, when a Russian Orthodox zealot named Abram Balashov used a knife to stab Ilya Repin’s realist painting Ivan The Terrible Killing His Son, Voloshin was the only native Russian speaking intellectual to defend the man, indicating that it was an aesthetic statement appropriate to the painting, which displayed gore and bad taste. Like Repin’s pictorial realism, Balashov’s political views were reactionary: while stabbing the painting three times Balashov shouted: “Enough blood! Down with blood!” Balashov was incarcerated in a mental hospital and the average Russian intellectual of the time appeared more shocked by his attempt to destroy a famous painting than the repressive nature of the Russian state.

Max Voloshin’s house in Koktebel attracted the most open-minded people of its time: artists and their models and mistresses. It was a place where male painters would strip off to work in the buff with their nude models on the seashore, shocking the locals with their “impermissible behaviour”.

Immediately after the October Revolution in Russia, nudism was tolerated by some Bolshevik leaders including Lenin, who claimed he thought “it has a healthy proletarian source”. Although the Bolsheviks merely replaced the formal with the real domination of capital in Russian, to establish their grip on the country they had to pretend to be more radical and further to the left than they actually were, hence their early toleration of communudism. Once Stalinist glaciation set in and the Bolsheviks came to believe they had an iron grip on Russia, the radical pro-nudist Soviet organization “Shame Off!” was disbanded in 1925, and nudism was repressed.

Following on from the thawing of Stalinist glaciation and tankie repressiveness came the emergence of a Soviet hippie movement in the late-1960s and early-1970s. At this time, echoes of the international sexual revolution began to be felt in both Russian and Crimea (as well as throughout the Ukraine and in other Soviet Republics and eastern bloc satellite states). Soviet hippies hit upon the remote location of Lisya Buhta (Fox Bay in English), near Koktebel in Crimea, for their nude encounters and communudist social experiments. Fox Bay not only had a beautiful beach, it was a suitable location for camping, since there is small forest nearby where firewood can be collected and drinking water is available at the foot of the Echki-Dag mountain.

Feeling Fox Bay was becoming too popular, some communudists decided to find a wilder place to camp about and get nekkid. They chose Meganom, a headland near Sudak with many small bays and pebble beaches. Since it’s difficult to get to Meganom, and there are no shops or houses, this location was considered a paradise for communudists who wanted to contemplate each other’s bodies and engage in outdoor communal sex in complete tranquillity.

There’s another communudist beach close to Sevastopol called Fiolent. The water is very clean and is a pale greyish green in colour. While it is easy to get to Fiolent from Sevastopol, the communudist beach itself is hard to access due to landslides. Communudists reach it by jumping across rocks. There’s only a few places flat enough to pitch a tent at Fiolent. The Southern coast of Crimea has fewer nudist beaches than the area around the regional capital of Sevastopol. However there is one communudist hang out in Simeiz, beneath Koshka Mountain. Nudists trek to Simeiz to enjoy the spectacular landscapes and to take photos of each other posing buck naked with huge rocks and thickets of juniper all around them.

The long tradition of nudism and communudism in Crimea is currently threatened by the invasion of the peninsula by Russian soldiers directed by ultra-reactionary Vladimir Putin. Nudists and communudists from around the world must protest against the threat to their activities posed by Putin’s plans to annex Crimea. Proletarian nudity could become a crime in Crimea if Putin takes control of the peninsula…

Clothed female, naked (or nude) male (on the internet sometimes abbreviated to CFNM) is a genre of erotica featuring one or more nude men and one or more clothed women. It is sometimes described as a sexual fantasy, by women or men, depicting an exhibitionist or physique worship scenario. One-sided male nudity can also arise when a male disrobes for the sexual pleasure of a woman, other men or horses, such as in a BDSM or other sexual activity, as an indication of sexual submission, or as part of a male striptease. In classical antiquity, the portrayal of nude male form in art (including the exposure of genitals) was considered to be more acceptable than that of the naked female form. By the renaissance, this view had reversed. For example, in Titian’s treatment of Perseus and Andromeda in mid-1550s, however, it is Andromeda who is nude – save for the barest wisp of fabric – while Perseus is clothed in armour. Depictions of nudity were acceptable to the 19th-century French salon culture if the setting was clearly “classical”, depicting characters in a culture where nudity was commonplace, as in Combat de coqs (1847) by Jean-Léon Gérôme.

Feminist authors Christina Hoff Sommers and Naomi Wolf have written that women’s sexual liberation has led many women to a role reversal, whereby they view men as sex objects, in a manner similar to what they criticize in men’s treatment of women.

Unlike CMNF, CFNM is not divided into categories, such as soft CFNM and hard CFNM. Male participants receive pleasure from the CFNM experience for a number of reasons. Many males enjoy being completely nude around females and do not tend to be disappointed that the females are fully clothed, while experiencing the sexual pleasure given by females, which might include masturbation or oral sex. Some male participants, however, feel humiliated by the experience. Like the females in hard CMNF, their focus is on the embarrassment or humiliation they experience in the situation.

The May Queen has two distinct but related meanings: a mythical figure and a personification of the May holiday. Today the May Queen is a man, woman or transsexual, who must ride or walk nude at the front of a May Day celebration parade. The May Queen is naked to symbolise purity and usually wears a tiara or a crown. Their duty is to begin the May Day celebrations. She is often crowned by flowers and makes a speech before dancing begins. Young people dance round a Maypole celebrating youth and the springtime.

The veracity of this belief is difficult to establish, but while in truth it might just be an example of anti-pagan propaganda, frequent associations between May Day rituals, the occult and human sacrifice are still to be found in popular culture today. Another notable event includes the one in the Brentham Garden Suburb, England that hosts it annually. It has the second oldest unbroken tradition although the May Queen of All London Festival at Hayes Common in Bromley is a close contender. A May Day festival is held on the village green at Aldborough, North Yorkshire on a site that dates back to Roman times and the settlement of Isurium Brigantum. The largest event in this tradition in modern Britain is the Beltane Fire Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. Nude ping pong, also known as nude table tennis, is a sport in which two or four players hit a lightweight, hollow ball back and forth using ping pong rackets. The game takes place on a hard table divided by a net. Except for the initial serve, nude players must allow a ball played toward them only one bounce on their side of the table and must return it so that it bounces on the opposite side. Points are scored when a player fails to return the ball within the rules. Play is fast and demands quick reactions. The game originated as a sport in England during the 1880s, where it was played among the upper-class as an after-dinner parlour game. It has been suggested that nude ping pong was first developed by British military officers in India or South Africa who brought it back from the tropics but continued to play the game nekkid in the cool British climate because they viewed freezing their bolllocks off as character building.

Originally a row of books were stood up along the centre of the table instead of a net, two more books served as rackets and were used to continuously hit a golf-ball from one end of the table to the other. This was followed by E.C. Goode who, in 1901, invented the modern version of the racket by fixing a sheet of pimpled, or stippled, rubber to the wooden blade.

In the 1950s, rackets that used a rubber sheet combined with an underlying sponge layer changed the game dramatically, introducing greater spin and speed. These were introduced to Britain by sports goods manufacturer S.W. Hancock Ltd. Nude Pilates is a body conditioning routine that builds flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance. It places emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core or centre, and improving coordination and balance. The Nude Pilates system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginner to advanced. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises. Nude Pilates is superior to conventional clothed Pilates in that it allows instructors and other class members to get a proper view of the student’s grasp of body control. Correct form is crucial to Pilates and gym clothes can make that difficult to observe. Nude Pilates is the obvious solution to this problem.

Concentration. Nude Pilates demands intense focus. You have to concentrate on what you’re doing all the time. And you must concentrate on your entire body for smooth movements. This is not easy, but in Nude Pilates the way that exercises are done is more important than the exercises themselves.

Control. “Contrology” was Joseph Pilates’ preferred name for his method and it is based on the idea of muscle control. Centring. In order for the practitioner to attain control of their body they must have a starting place: the centre. The centre is the focal point of the Nude Pilates Method. Many Nude Pilates teachers refer to the group of muscles in the centre of the body—encompassing the abdomen, lower and upper back, hips, buttocks, and inner thighs—as the “powerhouse”. All movement in Pilates should begin from the powerhouse and flow outward to the limbs.

Flow or efficiency of movement. Nude Pilates aims for elegant sufficiency of movement, creating flow through the use of appropriate transitions. Once precision has been achieved, the exercises are intended to flow within and into each other in order to build strength and stamina. In other words, the Nude Pilates technique asserts that physical energy exerted from the centre should coordinate movements of the extremities: Nude Pilates is flowing movement outward from a strong core.

Precision is essential to correct Nude Pilates. Concentrate on the correct movements each time you exercise, lest you do them improperly and thus lose all the vital benefits of their value. The focus is on doing one precise and perfect movement, rather than many half-hearted ones. Nude Pilates is here reflecting common physical culture wisdom. You will gain more strength from a few energetic, concentrated efforts than from a thousand listless, sluggish movements”. The goal is for this precision to eventually become second nature, and carry over into everyday life as grace and economy of movement.

Breathing is crucial to the Nude Pilates method. Proper full inhalation and complete exhalation are key to this. Forced exhalation is the key to full inhalation. People need to squeeze out the lungs as if they are wringing a wet towel dry. In Nude Pilates exercises, the practitioner breathes out with the effort and in on the return. In order to keep the lower abdominals close to the spine; the breathing needs to be directed laterally, into the lower rib cage. Pilates breathing is described as a posterior lateral breathing, meaning that the practitioner is instructed to breathe deep into the back and sides of his or her rib cage. When practitioners exhale, they are instructed to note the engagement of their deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles and maintain this engagement as they inhale. Nude Pilates attempts to properly coordinate this breathing practice with movement, including breathing instructions with every exercise. Above all, learn to breathe correctly.

Humans breathe on average around 18,000 breaths per day. Posterior lateral breathing is a way of breathing that facilitates bibasal expansion of the rib cage, this encourages the breath to travel down into the lower lungs and cleanse the blood by the exchange of oxygen with carbon dioxide. To understand this concept properly the practitioner has to first learn to expand and release the rib cage without deliberately breathing in or out. The in-breath (inhalation) and out-breath (exhalation) should occur instinctively as a result of the conscious expansion and release of the rib cage. This is how it is done: The practitioner places their hands on their lower ribs with their thumbs facing the back of their rib cage, trying not to think of breathing, relaxing their upper abdominals, and expanding their rib cage to the side against the soft resistance of their hands. Release the expansion of the rib cage by first melting away the area of the clavicles. This can also be tried with a scarf around the lower rib cage. The practitioner will not be able to expand and release the rib cage effectively if they try to contract their abdominal muscles to expand the rib cage and if they try to contract the rib cage instead of first release it.

Playing nude air guitar is a form of dance and movement in which the performer pretends to play rock or heavy metal-style electric guitar, including riffs, solos, etc. while nekkid. Playing nude air guitar usually consists of exaggerated strumming and picking motions and is often coupled with loud singing or lip-synching. Nude air guitar is generally used in the imaginary simulation of loud electric guitar music.

One of its earlier manifestations is in the Brucesploitation movie Challenge Of The Tiger (directed and staring Bruce Lee imitator Bruce Le, 1980). In this movie Ninja and Italian exploitation film star Richard Harrison plays a stud called Cannon. Harrison specialises in seducing women while his partner in crime Bruce Le kicks ass. Cannon is introduced playing tennis with some hot topless totty – shot in slow motion. He also has a pool full of naked babes.

Branka Pupovac (born 3 March 1972) is a Paralympic wheelchair tennis competitor from Australia. Pupovac is an incomplete paraplegic, as a result of an accident while riding on the back of a friend’s motorcycle when she was twenty. Her friend crossed a set of double lines in an effort to overtake a car. She was wearing a helmet at the time, but still had significant damage done to her neck and spinal cord. Pupovac, alongside Karni Liddell, Hamish MacDonald and Charmaine Dalli, was one of eighteen Australian Paralympians photographed by Emma Hack for a nude calendar. The photograph of her in the calendar features her topless and covered in brown and gold body paint.

In 2002 female tennis champion Anastasiya Myskina (born July 8, 1981, Moscow, Russia) Myskina had a series of photos taken for GQ magazine by the photographer Mark Seliger for a spread in the October edition of the publication, in which one approved photo of her fully clothed was published. After she won the French Open in 2004, some photographs from the shoot, in which she appeared topless, were published in the July/August 2004 issue of the Russian magazine Medved (Bear).

In August 2004, Myskina filed an $8 million USD lawsuit against GQ for allowing her topless photographs to appear in Medved without her consent. On June 19, 2005, U.S. District Judge Michael Mukasey, later United States Attorney General, ruled that Anastasiya Myskina could not stop the distribution of the topless photos, because she had signed a release. Myskina had claimed that she did not understand the photo release form and that she was not fluent in English at the time.

But the key reference cultural reference point for topless tennis remains videos of hot babes chosen for their buxom charms rather than their sporting skill. Which is a shame when you think of how great top players like the Williams sisters look. Venus and Serena Williams are obviously great at tennis – as well as super-hot – and this leads me to think completely nude tennis with talented athletes makes a lot more sense than the topless variety with glamour girls!
